Device-only view for live sessions

The device-only view hides the surrounding Kobiton UI (sidebars, headers, action panels, overlays, and modals) and shows only the device screen.

The device-only view is available on live device sessions. It is not available on historical session playback.

Before you begin

  • Start a live device session so you have an active device launch URL.

Launch the device-only view

To activate the device-only view, append &view=device-only to the device launch URL:

<portal>/devices/launch?id=<deviceId>&view=device-only

Replace <portal> with your Kobiton Portal URL and <deviceId> with the device ID from your session.

Loading the URL renders the device-only view directly. Only the literal value device-only activates the mode; any other value or a missing view parameter renders the default view.

Supported devices and orientations

The device-only view supports:

  • Android and iOS

  • Phones and tablets

  • Portrait and landscape orientations

Exit the device-only view

To end the session and release the device, select the floating exit button in the top-right corner of the device-only view.

The exit-button tooltip changes depending on whether an Appium session is running:

  • No Appium session running: "End the session and release the device."

  • Appium session running: "Close the live device view. Your Appium session will keep running."

To return to the default view without ending the session, remove &view=device-only from the URL. The session remains active.

Canvas input

Canvas touches and swipes in the device-only view are forwarded to the device under test. Keystrokes, right-clicks, pinch, and drag-off-canvas are not forwarded.

Agents can read those events using the ai:mcp/get-user-input-events.adoc MCP tool.

Session recording

The saved session video is the mixed-session recording. There is no separate device-only recording.
