Retain a device

Retaining a device reserves it for exclusive use for a set duration. While a device is retained, no other user can start a session on it, and the cleanup policy (if active) does not run between sessions.

Retain a device from the exit prompt of a manual session, or retain a private or local device from the device list without starting a session.

Retain a device when you exit a session

  1. In the manual session, select Exit current session. Kobiton Portal opens a confirmation prompt.

  2. Open the Retain list and select a duration.

  3. Select Exit Session. To stay in the session, select Continue Session instead.

Available durations

The Retain list on the exit prompt offers these durations:

  • Do not retain device (default)

  • Unlimited (available only when the organization allows unlimited retention)

  • 1 hour

  • 2 hours

  • 4 hours

  • 8 hours

  • 16 hours

  • 24 hours

When retaining from the device list, the Retain list does not include Do not retain device.
